To be great you will serve people don't think as severing people as a negative thing. Serving people is honorable. Think of serving as role of leadership. Everywhere we turn the someone is in need of quality leadership but is it possible that we are in greater need of something else?
Could we all be in need of actually getting down into the trenches our selves and serving those around us. When we serve other we are building relationships, helping other develop their cause. Jesus was and is the greatest servant the world has ever known. He was actively traveling, teaching, to the point where He was helping so many people the government got scared of of Him an had Him killed.

43 Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, 44 and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all. 45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
